Toys – James Patterson

Toys by James Patterson is an average read. The story is set some time in future where human beings created a clan of super beings known as Elites and the subsequent fight between Elites and human beings for complete supremacy over Earth. The central character in the story is a human being called Hays Baker whose parents modified his biological structure to make him pass off as an Elite. He is later sent to spy on the activities of Elites. 

The author manages to attract the reader in the first half of the book, but fails to in the latter half of the book. The biggest disappointment for me was the very little role that “Toys” play in the entire novel.      

Sidney Sheldon’s Angel of the Dark – Tilly Bagshawe

Sidney Sheldon’s Angel of the Dark by Tilly Bagshawe leaves you nauseated. The storyline revolves around the darker attributes of humans, including jealousy, extreme shelfishness, psychotic disorders, hatred, grudge, lust and brutal savagery.

The two principal characters in the story, Frankie Mancini and Sophie Smith, target vulnerable, elderly rich men around the world. Sophie approaches the men with a false name, allures them with her beauty, marries them and later manipulates them into writing their entire property in her name. Later, the men are killed in a gruesome manner and Sophie is found brutally abused. The rich men’s assets are then donated to children’s charity. Hot on these murders are Matt, the son of one of Sophie’s first victims, and Danny, a former LAPD officer who later joins the Interpol. Some scenes in the novel are left to the readers’ imagination.

This book can be skipped for better ones in the book shelf. 

Master of the Game – Sidney Sheldon

Master of the game by Sidney Sheldon is a page turner. This novel embodies Sidney Sheldon’s brilliance in storytelling. Although the story is neither suspense nor mystery, the storyline keeps the reader enchanted with little twists and turns.

Master of the game is the story of a family that founded a successful conglomerate called Kruger and Brent. The novel begins off describing how a young Jamie McGregor made a fortune for himself against tremendous odds in colonial South Africa and the eventual establishment of the conglomerate. True to the title “Master of the Game”, a large chunk of the story is about the ruthlessness, intelligence and cunningness of the central character, Kate Blackwell, who manipulates people and situations to get what she wants, which is the limitless growth of Kruger and Brent and her family’s absolute control over it. But destiny has something else in store for the lady who has to deal with a deranged son and his twin daughters Eve, an evil schemer, and Alexandra, a docile lady with no interest at all in the family business. The story details what it takes to be the “Master of the Game”.
